2008 XL883C Removal of battery

I am a new rider and I just purchased this bike. I am putting it up for the winter months. I need to remove the battery. How do I accomplish this? What else do I need to know for winter prep? It will be stored in an unheated shed til spring of 2011.

Battery removal should be in your owners manual, you do have one Right? If not I would buy The HD Factory manual and get an owners manual Too, JMO:s

Add stabilizer to the fuel and run it until it circulates, change fluids, plug the exhaust with some steel wool so critters do not move in. Take the weight off the shocks, I do not remove the battery, just hook it up to a battery tender.
