I pulled battery for the winter

put in a new battery new fuses new relay and new plugs

it turns over but will not start

I checked for spark and compression all good

I pulled the gas cap off and air filter still it will not fire

it has always started right up. im stumped.

any further suggesstions. I know this is an easy fix.

I believe the '04 has a vac. operated petcock. Maybe the vac. rubber is cracked between the back of the carb. and the petcock. Or, the diaphragm could be bad. Pull the fuel line and see if you get fuel flow when engine is turning over.

Art Vandalay, heh, heh. nice one George.

Does it crank slow? Not the first "new" battery to not have enough voltage. Check the voltage on the battery. It should be above 12.6 volts I believe. Also when cranking, see what the voltage drops to. If it drops below 9 volts thats bad. You can "test" to see if it's a fuel thing by squirting a little carb cleaner in the throat.

With a bike of that age it may be that the carb needs a rebuild as the rubber components do deteriorate over time especially when used with modern fuels

Welcome, if it has a carburetor check and make sure your float is working if in doubt tap on the bottom of the float bowl.
