2003 Road King, carbureted won't start. The engine cranks but won"t start. It has fuel, spark & compression. When trying to start, it has a loud backfire through the exhaust, sounds like a gunshot. Doesn't have any codes that I can retrieve, and the check engine light stays off after initial light check. I'm thinking crank sensor . Just wanted to see if anyone here has experienced the backfire thing with no start.

According to the manual the sensor should have a reading of 600-1800 ohms, this one reads infinite. Going to get a new one and see if that fixes the problem.

Sounds like that could be the culprit, you could try cleaning it first before buying a new one.

Crank sensor fixed it. They should have made the connection to the sensor somewhere near the sensor instead of having to run the wire from the front of the bike underneath all the way to the right side cover compartment, good thing is the bikes running again. Thanks for the responses.

Glad you got it fixed. And you're right about the placement of the connector. Kind of a pain to run the wiring correctly, but worth the effort.
