2001 rk speedo problem

have read about the spped sensor and going to get a new one but heres what i have.

the odometer reads does not count, the niddle sits on 0.

in the wireing where the conector conects to the speedometer there is a red wire with a plastic conector not conected and no wire comeing fom anything to conect to it. is this for testing or should something be conected to this.

If the red plug is in the #3 position, it's supposed to be like that. Nothing connects to it.
