1991 sturgis tranny question

just bought the bike, all in pieces. i was wondering if the is a bracket on the right side of the bike that joins the motor and tranny togther. it looked like the previous owner had a make shift piece made.

Not as designed, but there are some after-market parts that reinforce the connection between the tranny and engine, and complete the "box". See here:
