1991 flstf clacking cooming from primary

I just picked up a 1991 fatboy with 27000 k on it. the bike is in great shape .
I have only ridden a twincam with a closed primary. but I have ridden a 1340 evo with an open primary. the sound comming from the Primary sounds close to what a dry clutch sounds like.
Is this a normal sound for an Evo 's primary ?

Not normal. My '92 primary is virtually silent. Remove the oval plate in the middle of the primary cover and check the primary chain tension (also easily adjusted thru the opening) and condition of the slipper block and make sure there's oil in there. Since you just got the bike, cheap insurance is to change ALL fluids.

I agree new fluids . I checked the tentioner mabey a little tight . I thenk the compensator might be loose. Im gona pull the primary cover and then pull the compensator and clutch basket clean up and relocktight and tourk.
