1982 FLT starter trouble

I have a 1982 FLT shovel. When I hit the starter switch, the starter shrieks like an eagle (sounds like an air impact when removing a wheel lug) and then finally turns the motor over and starts. The sound is getting worse with every start.
I have replaced the starter, solenoid, and battery. I have also had everything apart and the starter shaft and all the gears look good. Any help on what my problem is would be appreciated.

Have you checked the bearing in the Primary Cover where the Starter Jack Shaft rides? I think it is P/N 9061. Seems as though you have replaced or checked everything else.
