1000 mi service

Buy a service manual and do it yourself, it's fun and it will not void your warranty:)
Plus you can use better fluids then your dealer probably does.

Do it yourself, save money, and really get to know your bike. However, if you're mechanically challenged like me, take it slow and don't get into something over your head that might tempt you to cut corners and make your bike unsafe. The 1000 mile service is pretty simple. The main thing is to check EVERY fastener on your bike and get high quality fluids in it.

Doing your own service doesn't void anything but save receipts for oil, filters etc.
As far as what the dealers do, that's very loose, it depends on the dealer and the tech working on the bike and if they have a conscience or not.:s
