04 Sportster Running Rich?

Just wanted to update this thread and thank all for their suggestions!

I did the following:

  1. Cleaned Carburetor jets, needle, exterior
  2. Replaced intake manifold seals
  3. replaced carburetor to intake manifold seal
  4. replaced backing plate to carburetor gasket
  5. mixture screw was set at 3 1/2 turns out - reset to 1 1/2 turns out
  6. replaced enrichment cable as original unit was binding
  7. lubricated and adjusted throttle cables
  8. adjusted idle - mixture is fine at 1 1/2 turns out after warming up bike and test riding

The bike is day and night different than before the changes! It appeared that both intake seals were leaking and the backplate to carburetor gasket was torn.
Also, the idle mixture screw was set too rich, probably to compensate for the intake seal leak and backplate gasket leak.
