Re: checking trans lube

there is no dipstick as the trans uses the same as the primary unlike a softail/dyna/tourer it only has 2 holes not 3.
on the primary side there is the derby cover and an inspection cover for checking the primary chain, remove the small inspection cover to pour in the new oil, to drain it there is a plug underneath do not over tighten this as you can crack the cases.
the primary/trans takes 1qt

Re: checking trans lube

Hobbit I wish I would have had this advice before removing the clutch inspection cover to add the oil on a recent primary oil change. I fought the quad-ring seal on the clutch inspection cover for 45 minutes before getting it installed without a leak. The dealer was closed by the time I realized I should have bought a new quad-ring. Next time I will add the oil thought the primary chain inspection cover. I see no reason to check the oil level when the standard re-fill is one quart.

Re: checking trans lube

make sure you have a nice flexible filler to do it through the chain inspection hole

Re: checking trans lube

I just connect the funnel to a piece of flexible tubing and put the end of the tubing into the cover. This would be much better then disturbing the quad ring seal on the clutch inspection cover.
