Sportster KMH per 1000RPM

Here's a technical question but specific to Sortsters so I hope I have posted it in the right place!

I am keen to buy a tacho kit although for the present time I cannot pick the revs of the bike (all based on "feel" like a good v-twin should be). I am curious though, what the speed is per 1000rpm in top gear. A number of factors need to be considered:

-My bike is a 1998 XL883
-Have the ratios/revs changed over the years since belt drive commenced?
-Do 883/1200 have the same final drive ratio?
-Is the final drive 1:1?
-How accurate are Harley speedo's?

If anyone can give me the figures in mph I can easily convert it to kmh!

Re: Sportster KMH per 1000RPM

the rubber mounted 883's have a different ratio to rubber 1200's.
if this helps a new XR1200 revs at 4000 rpm showing 70 on the speedo my 2008 Buell 1200 shows 80 for the same rpm
as for rpms on a 883 solid mount they had different ratios again and if you chain driven you could have any size sprocket on the back or the front.
speedos usually over read at least all mine do 70 is more like 67/68 according to the satnav

Re: Sportster KMH per 1000RPM

Thanks Hobbit, you have answered some of my question, if solid mounts had a different ratio then someone with the same vintage will probably only be able to give me a definitive answer. Cheers mate!
