Sportster windshield options?

I'd like to put a windshield on my sporty, and I'm wondering if there are any less expensive but decent quality options aside from the HD windshields, which, like every other HD accessory, are rather pricey!

Thanks
Dave

Re: Sportster windshield options?

I put the HD quick-release windshield on my wife's Nightster. It was expensive, but I don't regret the expenditure one bit. It is solid, nice chrome, and really just well built.

Have you checked out the self-help,tech tips section on here? If so --- you might try J C Whitney,Memphis Shades , Rifle , Clear view sheilds to name just a few . Just be careful of buying a "less expensive than HD" sheild, you could end up paying twice the amount in the long run!!!

Dave

Although the HD windshields are a bit pricey, they offer about the best in the mounting systems and the shields themselves are a good quality too. The after market offers some good products but certain areas are best left to the HD items IMO.

As R Lewis mentioned, check out the self help forum Thanks!

Re: Sportster windshield options?

When I was looking for a windshield for my XL1200C, I eventually went with the HD quick-clamp windshield. The units from Klockwerks were a close contender, but in the end, I wanted absolute quality and resale value.

I remove my windshield during the week to ride to work (the bike looks better without it in my wife's opinion), but for highway touring with the guys from work, the shield has saved my arms and body from tremendous fatique (when we cross into Arizona on our rides, the highway speeds are legal 75MPH). I do appreciate not having to hold on to the hand grips for dear life!

Good luck with your hunt. There are many fine units out there to look at (I know, because I looked a bunch of them over 2 months before buying!).

Don't waste your time trying to save a few bucks on this accessory. The HD quick release model looked great, worked great, fit great, on/off in seconds. Get one!!

Re: Sportster windshield options?

I put on a awesome National Cycle Plexfairing Windshield that not only covers the face, but also covers the hands. Got it on Ebay for $125. Since I have been riding with it, it has been a Godsend on the highway and when it rained! From what I have been told, it is BETTER than the HD freaken pricey one and with its quick release, you can't go wrong.
