Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
Hi im new to the form and relatively new to the sporster (bought it in aug of 07). Anyway does anybody make forward control extensions for this bike (04 xl1200)? Also when I bought the bike the dealer told me it had a stage I screaming eagle kit on it, what does that consist of besides some crome? The bike has what im assuming are screaming eagle II slipons on it, I really like the V&H shortshots would I be money ahead to get some or would i be better off sticking with the se's.
Thanks Josh |

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
hi Josh welcome to the forum, you don't say which model XL1200 you have but assume it the C as you want to move the forwards further forward, Check places like Zanottis and J&P cycles for extension kits.
As for the question on SE kit does the Air cleaner look like this ![]() or like this SE version ![]() If you have SEII's fitted you dont really need to do the air filter other than increase the pilot jet size and turn the mixture up. If it has a SE kit fitted you will need to find out what Jet kit is installed in the Carb - either Yost power tube (coloured needles and emulsion tubes), Dyno Jet (will say DJ on the Jets and needle), Dyno Jet thunder slide same as normal kit but with a light weight composite slide in place of the orginal, SE kit similar to Dyno but sold by HD, or the previous owner may have shimmed and jetted the carb himself using stock parts. |

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
Yea sorry it is the C. Im pretty sure it has the one in the bottom picture but I'll have to check for sure. The bike only had 2600 miles on it when I bought it and everything was dealer installed. It runs really good, strong acceleration with no dead spots and will run circles around my buddy's 03 XL1200C. As far as the SE II slip ons go should I keep those or would I be happier with the short shots? The se's are kinda quiet for me, sound good but kinda quiet, but they do still have the baffles in them. If i was to switch to the short shots would I need to rejet? I kinda hate to mess with it since it runs so good.

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
the short answer is yes
when i swapped to short shots on my 883 from SEII it took a little tinkering to get the right jet combo and the Shorts shots are loud . DO NOT remove the baffle from the SEII's you will kill the performance and ruin the sound - to clarify no baffle destorys the bottom end drive of the bike and makes the bike sound hollow, keep the baffle to give the motor good back pressure, if you wnat more volume remove the baffle and see you long it is then buy a 2nd set and cut them in half instant volume without rendering the torque and back pressure obsolete. Short shots are also baffled and come with a quieter baffle if the standard pipe is to loud but i like mine

did you notice any power difference with the shortshots? How far off would my jetting be you think?

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
there is a loss at the bottom but not that noticeable but the mid and top makes up for it.
without knowing what is currently in the bike it is very hard to say, as i do not use Dyno jet kits or any other after market kits i make my own out of stock parts. If it is Dyno Jet there are instructions and jetting suggestions on the installation instructions. roughly Pilot jet stays the same as with SE2's may be a 46 mikuni if the 45 feels lean. Main jet i ran a 180 mikuni in my 883 and it was fine and 1 shim on the stock needle would run 100+ no probs I do not remember the jetting for my 1200 carb and my current sporty is FI |

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
sounds like im gonna get a set of short shots. I suppose I'll have to pull the carb apart and see what jets it has in it. thanks for your help. I may just take it to the dyno and let them get it spot on.

Re: Forward control extensions, seII slipons or shortshots?
You'll probably find a #42 in there as the low jet on stock motors and should be upped to a 45. The top end should be a #175 or 180 and are usually OK as is.
