so I have the money to add a little more to the old sporty
 highway bar or forward controls what are you thoughts ... |

Welcome to the forum.
I would have to say forward controls. It will give you more comfortable position and still have the controls at your disposal when you need them.

the forward controls are wonderful. the mids always got in my way when I stopped, my feet would catch.
