I ordered my service manual and just waiting for it to get here. i need to change my tranny fluid before that tho does anyone have a 2001 883 that knows how much fluid to add?

Make sure its a correct fluid for a Sportster transmission as also does the primary and clutch
capacities 32 us oz / 946 ml / 33.3 imp.oz

Old legend is an unknown quantity at this point

And make sure you put the correct type of oil into the tranny. Look that up in the owners manual, or you could go to the dealer and they can advise you as to what type to use. Generally the dealer will tell you the HD oil.

Never listened to the Dealer used Amsoil 20W50 for everything on my Sportster and never had any worries...

the sportster transmission oil lubes both the gear box and the primary and as such requires a specially formulated oil
so use the correct oil as a new gearbox is not cheep
