Ride till well warmed up (hot)
Losen the correct drain plug (very important)
losen fill so it can vent
Slide pan under bike remove plug rest of the way allow to drain when it stops runing out hold bike stright up a bit so last little drains out.
wipe off plug replace O ring( replace no madder how good old may look.)
refill with proper amount of High quialty sny gear lube (hold back some of the lube so you do not over fill,) let it settle check level adjust as needed.)
Check oil ring on fill plug they become damaged sometimes from over thightening replace if bad. Snug the fill plug go for ride.
You will find this section very help full

Re: How to change 03 Heritage transmission fluid

The drain points down it is on the right side buttom of oilpan.
Big if you do not have the owners manual and the service manual for you bike it would be in you best intrest to get them.
The service manual will run you 50 to 60 bucks get the HD one the others are wortless.
It will save you alot of money time and problems very quickly.
You are not going to be able to do your own work on the bike with out.
Something as simple as removing the wrong plug can crack the case when you put it back if you tighten it just a bit to much.

The softail is a bit different than the baggers as far as the drain plug. Look up between the shocks and you will find it. Start the plug by hand when you are done so you don't cross thread it.

Take a look here, third pic.

Can i say this?-type in 'DUDEWORLD-HOW TO' into your search engine and hopefully a fully scripted and pictorial treatise will come up.An enterprising and helpful Aussie guy posted 3 how-to's regarding H-D's.
How to change Twin Cam engine, primary and gearbox oils. It's logical, helpful and most importantly, easy enough for any idiot or tyro(me) to follow to an acceptable conclusion.

Seriously,it shows EXACTLY everything you need to do,except change the oils for you.
