I have done this only to show the jack is a lot more stable than some beleave. And your wife may think you gone nuts. That jack lifts both my FB softail and my RoadGlide prefectly everytime. That does not mean I am not careful with it. I use the straps, when I move the bike around on the jack I go slow and avoid seams in the floor. Till I really got to trust it, to lower I would bring it down to wheels touching floor get on the bike to balance it then slowly lower it the rest of the way. I still think that way is the safest. If you are going to remove any major parts from front or back when jacked up BLOCK it just to be safe. If the tour pack or bags have stuff in them it will effect the balance even if you do not notice it right away. Once up and locked remove handel if you don't and someone or you walk by and trip on it you could spin the bike off balance.

I know the first time I did I was asking myself if it was really a good idea. So if we can make it a little easyer on someone I am all for it. I forgot one day we had not unpacked from a 4 day trip yet and jacked it up with a full load scary when the front comes up and back don't. The sears pro may not be the best lift out there but it is a good effective medium price one that works well for me.

Re: Bought yellow craftsman jack
I just tried out the jack. Took a few times to find the balance. It works really well. I had my son help me. Smitty do you jack yours up by yourself. It seemed kind of awkward and do you leave the stand down. Thanks again to everyone. The pictures helped greatly.

Heritage2002, make sure the jack plate is clear the shocks or they may get damage.

Re: Bought yellow craftsman jack
You will get more accustomed to lifting & lowering the bike. I do my deuce fairly comfortably, but hubbies electra glide still makes me a little nervous. At first I didn't bother with the straps, but now I do, just a security blanket for me....
I did the service on both bikes (not at the same time of course) without using the straps, but I recently decided to use them just for my peace of mind, and after reading Dangerdan's post, I will definitely use the strap.
