Softail windshields
I have a '99 softail Custom and have been kicking around the idea of putting a windshield on it. Yesterday my face got sanded on the way home and it immediately went to top priority. Tigg said there may be an issue with front end control if I put one on. Any thoughts/ suggestions/ anecdotes would be appreciated.

Re: Softail windshields
I myself have an '07 custom softail and I have the new style quick release (4 clamps right on the front forks) windshield and I love it. When I go for really far away rides or when its colder out like today (40 degrees) not to mention those summer nights when there are 2 million bugs hitting you in the face it helps out alot and I can take it off in 3 seconds which is also one of its downfalls I guess because it could be stolen that fast too. But I love being able to take it off and ride without it whenever I want. I read the post about the wideglide and the front end shaking and I don't really have that problem but it does put alot more vibration on my head (glasses & helmet).

Re: Softail windshields
Ya I have heard that but it was the tallest one they offered in that style of windshield and its not bad enough that i will change anything.

Re: Softail windshields
I can make a concession here and there regarding style and so forth. Here in south Georgia, we have an over abundance of gnats, love bugs, bees, wasps, dump trucks, log trucks, deer, dirt (sand) roads and just about any other good reason to put on a windshield. i just want something to keep the junk out of my face but let the bike handle decently. The thought of a full face during the summer is not appealing at the moment but it is also about my only option. Wussie or not, getting nailed by that wasp last year and the sand yesterday have made up my mind in favor of the windshield.

Re: Softail windshields
If you go to short of better or cooler look you will be wasting your time and money.
Get the right size of do'nt bother. You will get use to the look in time at first it is a shock after a few good GA night or early evening rides you will love it. Plus you will have one more place to put areally great windsheild bag to hold thing you want to get out of your pocket I know what your talking about I lived in Macon for a while and did a lot of time over in Gylnco

Re: Softail windshields
I like the quick disconnect type and would recommend it highly. Personally I think the HD is the best. Memphis Shades makes some good ones and they offer color and tint so you may want to check them out also.

Re: Softail windshields
I looked at them in the J&P catalog. I'll probably lean that way.
