Thumbs down 2005 Softail Stage-1 question

I will be installing a stage-1 kit on my 2005 Softail and would like to keep the nostalgic look of the tappered pipes. I am considering just drilling the stock muffler out. I hear that performance may not be as great due to a lack of back presure. Any other options? Is there a performance slip on that looks like the stock pipe?

Welcome to the forum! Dont drill your pipes you wont gain anything other then noise and you will probably lose performance and efficiancy. Have you gone to all the aftermarket web sites for slip-ons? When I researched pipes I found that when I googled them I came up with so much it was baffling (no pun intended) you can get slip-ons in every shape and configuration that you want.

s&s and cycle shack make performance slip ons that look like the stock tapered mufflers.

Many options that look like the stock mufflers. I'm the same way too, I like to keep it looking stock.

Drilling the mufflers isn't a good idea for the reasons you stated in your post. Do it right and get a set that will work and save the stockers for the future when EPA tells us we can't run anything but stock mufflers. By that time the prices of used mufflers on fleabay will be through the roof.
