V&H exhaust
My dad bought a set of Vance&Hines big radius exhaust pipes for his '07 softtail standard. We were at the dealer planning when we were gonna get them put on and what all had to be done to the bike. the guy at the service desk suggested the SE breather kit with a remap. Is the Remap sufficient, or should he go buy a SERT, PC, FuelPak, etc.? It's fuel injected so I think there's more play inthere than in a Carbureted model, but we're not sure. thanks in advance for the replies.

Re: V&H exhaust
Doc
The SE breather kit (stage 1) with a remap works for some but the remap is still EPA friendly and lean. With the remap your rev limit will be 6200, without it the limit will be 5800. (I have the 5800 with a TFI and it runs well) I personally would go with an aftermarket tuner ranging from a TFI, PC III or SERT from easiest to a more difficult/involved installation in that order. The TFI is user friendly and an easy install and setup also works well, the others have to be setup and mapped with the use of a computer and a special program that comes with the unit with the SERT, the PCIII has the maps on the internet on the power commander site and can be downloaded. You also have the option like FuelMoto (see below) who is on the internet and will send you the PC III with a map for your bike already installed. There's a lot of reading in the Fuel injection section of this forum. http://www.fuelmotousa.com/ < PC III http://www.dobeckperformance.com/ < TFI http://www.powercommander.com/eng_default.aspx SERT is available at your HD dealer. Be sure which ever way you go that the tuner (mechanic) that will be setting up the bike knows what they are doing. This will give you more info on the differences between the units. http://www.hdtalking.com/diagnostics...ifference.html

Re: V&H exhaust
thanks glider. My dad isn't planning on doing any further mods to the engine, that I know of. He just wants to make his bike louder, now that he hears how my sportster sounds with the shortshots staggered. He does want to do the whole stage 1 just so he doesnt mess the bike up by just adding exhaust.

Yes they do have the V&H fueler but the support is limited and if you do not use their products (V&H), they do not have the settings to support other aftermarket brands.

Re: V&H exhaust
Guys, In Oz I have a 07 Softail Standard with V&H big Radius pipes. Bick Sucker air filter. I put a Thundermax http://www.thunder-max.com/ ECM. It goes like a cut snake and gets a second torque band response with a fistful. A bit of popping on cold days and when commuting. Better maps are on the way to fine tune otherwise very happy. Fuel economy is about 17.5 kms/litre at a combination of highway at 120 kms with about 30 minutes of stop start.

CTrain
Did you know that Doebeck has an upgrade for the bigger engines 90+HP - FI-1040HPST TFI Fuel Injection Module ? It's on their site. Just thought I'd mention it.
