Free Chrome Stebel Nautilus Air Horn
First some background.
Several years ago my son and I were traveling down the interstate at speed and my stock horn broke off its mount and bounced a few times before smashing into a minivans windshield. I pulled over to make restitution and to pick up the battered remains but the van kept going. I figured it wasn’t worth trying to chase it down. Rather than purchase a stock horn I decided to install an aftermarket horn below the front crash bars. I liked the look but the sound level left something to be desired. The next Christmas I received a Chrome Stebel Nautilus Air Horn which I installed in the dead space under the seat. I reached over and hit the horn switch and it performed flawlessly. I put away my tools with the satisfaction of knowing I would be able to put the 4 wheel public on notice in the spring. The first nice day I fired up my bike and hit the horn switch and to my dismay nothing happened. I turned off the bike and tried it again and it worked fine. At this point I have a horn that only works when I’m not going anywhere. I spent some time going over my work and I couldn’t figure it out. As a disclaimer I have to admit I am clueless regarding wiring diagrams (I’m too old to care) but it hasn’t stopped me from forging ahead on numerous projects anyway. So I reconnected the old horn and ignored the whole situation out of frustration. Several months later I was riding in a rural area and I saw a small motorcycle shop so I decided to see if the old gentleman who owned it could figure it out for me. It took several hours and $75 before he had to admit he couldn’t get it working. So if anyone on the forum feels like they would like to give it a shot let me know and I’ll send it to you. Otherwise it’s going to sit on my shelf until I see my Lord and Savior and my heirs will throw it away with all the other junk I’ve accumulated. The only thing I require is that you don’t try to compensate me. I would rather you pay it forward. Bob |

Re: Free Chrome Stebel Nautilus Air Horn
Apparently that horn needs an adjustment...14.2V (battery+alternator float voltage) no toot...shut off ignition...12.6V battery only) toot...! If it were me, I would send unit back or have place that you bought it from exchange. BUT that is just me, especially if it is a "name brand", most reputable manufacturers stand by there products, part of what should be "Good Will Policy" associated with a decent CSR Customer Support Representative...!

Re: Free Chrome Stebel Nautilus Air Horn
Hopefully Kemo will get it working. I picked up a simple auto horn at Autozone I'm going to try today. After the $75 I decided to cut my losses and move on. Its very possible I didn't have it installed correctly. Years ago I had a Triumph 500 that wouldn't start after a tune up. A mechanic friend spent several hours with me trying to figure it out. Then his father who was also a mechanic came over and finally figured out I had the points installed inproperly and shorting out. So you never know.
