I'll keep you all up to speed on my progress and I certainly appreciate all the responses and offers thus far. Once I get situated I will respond to those that have made offers to show me the sights.
Pru...if you have AAA, the local office can put together a TravelTix, which is a flip map denoting your trip, areas of interest, hotels that offer AAA discounts along the way...etc. and even schedule and plan your trip based on your expected average distance you want to travel at and detailed targeted areas. It doesn't matter if your on a bike or car...armed with the Harley roads, and AAA to connect the dots...you should have a good plan and places to stop whether to gas, camp or just splurge at a motel every now and then. Also, if one of your riding partners is 60 or so, they may get free pass/parking in National Forests...pick up a card and you are good to go!

Motorcycle Adventure, Day 2

Got up at 0500 ready to go, but my sister insisted she fix breakfast. I’m glad she did. I headed out at 0820. Again the weather didn’t look so good and it looked progressively worse as the day went on, but it didn’t rain, so I have no complaints. I only did 243 miles today, but for some reason I was worn out by early afternoon. I got through Ashville, NC and headed for Maggie Valley via Waynesville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stopped by Ghost Town Harley Davidson, that’s what it looked like too. The place was almost deserted. Ate a good meal at J Arthur’s (early bird special) at 1630 as I didn’t feel like eating lunch. I think the excitement, anticipation and adrenaline have sapped my energy so I’m going to get an early night and head for the Cherohala Skyway tomorrow. Oh, I stopped by the Wheels Through Time Museum, but it was closed for some reason. I am spending the night at Laurel Park Inn, Maggie Valley. It is run by a Marine and her husband. This mini computer is really doing good so far, I hope it keeps up. Thanks for all the kind remarks and offers of assistance from the members of HDT following this thread. If I don’t send you a pm thanking you personally, please don’t take offense, but know I really appreciate the kind words. I’ll try and make another post tomorrow.

Hey Pru,

I haven't been on the computer in a couple of days and just caught this thread. I hope you have a great journey and little rain on the way. If you make it by St. Louis I am only 30 minutes east of there in Illinois. Let me know if you make it this way and maybe we will hook up if time permits. Coaching sons baseball team and going to daughters softball takes up a lot of time. Ride safe.

Re: Motorcycle Adventure To California

Hope you enjoyed the meal at J Arthur's. My son and I ate there a couple of years ago when we met to ride the Dragon. The museum is now open only at specified times. You need to check their website to see when they are going to open the doors. A pain, but at least they are still there and not in AZ as they had planned to be a year ago.

From where you are now, it is a short hop to Robbinsville where you can catch the Cherohola Parkway, and then Hwy 68 to Crossville. Then a short ride on I-40 to Nashville and the Natchez Trace.
