Really, it was not about him being gay as much as it was about him having a wife, which is living a lie, him having a relationship outside of his committed relationship, and him hiring someone less than qualified into a postition with the state because he was in a relationship with him. When this all was going to come to a head, he took responsibility for his mistakes. His being gay has nothing to do with it really, I would have voted for him, for sure, even if he was openly gay...as long as he can do the job, his sex life is his business.

I don't think being gay warrants someone as a bad politican, hiding it on the other hand does. These people know that their life is publicized why would they think people wouldn't eventually find out.
