Obama's Latest Speech

Did his most recent speech... regarding the inflammatory comments by his pastor... did this speech change your view of him as a candidate? Not asking if you're voting for him or not... just wondering if his speech made any difference in your mind?

Some say he was doing his best to try to look "presidential" in the presentation of his speech... so just wondering how (if at all) it affected your opinion?

Thanks for responding.

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

I love Obama. I am so sick of the idiot we have as president. Bush is the worst president I have experienced in the many years I have been on this planet. If some major changes aren't made our country is doomed! Yes I can go into much more detail if wanted. The one thing I really like about Obama is his ability to bring people of differing ideas together to solve problems without stupid party lines.

Bluessman, that is a great synopsis of the current situation...My IQ is over 100, so I see GW Bush as the moron that he is...

As far as Obama, I was not as fan of his until just recently. I caucused for John Edwards in Vegas, and when he did not earn enough delegates, I walked out of the polling place deciding to not back Obama or Hillary....

That said, his speech concerning racism and his message of change has hit home with me...I am a white male that grew up in the Midwest and actually think that I am a conservative at heart, but am also a union official and a person that takes folks for who they are,

I feel that Obama is the real deal and will back him to the hilt...

Respectfully to all,

Bill

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

I fully agree with both Bluesssman and Billua.

I was pulling for Edwards prior to him dropping out of the race, but Obama was my second choice of the whole Dem field of candidates - so he's my choice now.

Obama has always come accross to me as a real person. One from a diverse background that also has that unique ability to bring folks from diverse background together to achieve a common purpose. Man, what a talent that truly is. And Obama has it! How long has it been since we had a leader like that?

His recent speach just convinced me even more that he is indeed ready to run this country and to get some things fixed that Bush and others before him have neglected or screwed up.

Obama did not shy away from the issue about Wright, but rather addressed it and then moved on, asking the most pertient question of the times (paraphrased into my words) ; Do we Americans want to waste time wallowing in petty politics that uses labels (race, gender, ethinic background, etc.) as a distraction weapon, or do we Americans want to discuss and focus on the REAL problems and issues (health care, economy, jobs) facing this country?

I would prefer that our leaders do the later and get things fixed!

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

It didn't change my view and I am a Union Official and the IBT is backing him but I don't share their views and I AM NOT. And as far as his speech toward racism, Politicians will say whatever will work to get the votes they need to win.

my $.02 worth.

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

I’m not happy with any of them. His speech has no impact on my current political view. As far as Hillary, haven’t we had her for eight years already? His racist statements: I’m not a racist by any means but I just gag each time a black person steps in my face to announce their blackness, or mention the default “because I’m a black”,, I have two eyes, don’t tell me what you are I can see, tell me you’re an American, or Human or Person, I fault no one due to their skin, but don’t throw it in my face,, we all need to be Americans first, people second. For the record per gallop poll, white Americans have become the minority now. I’m a biker, talk about minority !

SHORT AND SWEET; bush is an arrogant idiot. Obama is by far the best chance we have to have anywhere near the life the working man has had in the recent past. When Hillary gets mad and her voice changes it says one thing to me " BITCH" she will never make it in the real world. When she gets mad she blows and that will never work. The other party will be more of the same and WE cant afford that .I believe they are calling it the bushIII option. THIS TRILLION $ WAR HAS TO STOP! .........I am a pround member of the same union as John Edwards brother.

Apparently you have forgotten a certain President by the name of Jimmy Carter? hmmm. He is the reason I became a blue dog and am now an independent.

Personally I might be more inclined to vote for Obama if he would get off of this "Hope and Change" retoric. Hope is a concept pure and simple, its not not policy. You can hope all you want. Remember the old saying " Hope in one hand and ..... in the other....? Nuf said. Change is good I am all for it. As long as goverment stays out of my pocket and life. But, let me know how you are going bring about that Change and how it is going to work. Talking about change and not willing to give ideas about how you are going to do that is just empty talk. Give me something to chew on. I thought the concept of a primary was to start to assemble your platform so the your party knows what your planning on so they can either back you or not. I guess things really do change the longer I am alive.

Its all about hot air now and not substance. As far as his speech , well I really got offended by it actually. I really don't like being in a round about way that because my opinion of his pastor is what it is that "I" am a racist. I don't agree with Wright's inflamitory retoric, but I spent 20 years defending his right to say it! I don't have a racist bone in my body, my oldest daughter's Godfather happens to be a Black American that I am very glad to call my brother, because he saved my life in the Gulf War.

Oh and while I am ranting , we need to quit bashing Bush and start looking to the future, Bush is a lame duck! He can't run for president again. We need to move on and calling him names and this and that just shows the other side just how obtuse we are on the other side. I did not vote for Hillary, I can tell you that, for some of the reasons that were stated above. If she wins the nomination I wont vote for her either, and if Obama doesnt give me something more in the way of substance he isn't going to get my vote either.

I relenquish the soapbox. Flame on!

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

Brad, I will agree with you for sure on the whole "Hope and Change" rhetoric being tossed out by the Obama camp. Those are great ideals... but like you said... HOW do you plan on doing this? Until I hear more substance, and less "promise and prose", I have a hard time supporting someone.

I back Hillary only because she seems to be the only option other then empty statements, and a Republican candidate who seems to think "staying the course" is a good choice.

Yikes.

His speech did nothing for me.

Re: Obama's Latest Speech

Obama is what I've always known him to be. Just another damned socialist trying to turn this country into a nanny state. Personally, I DO NOT need any damned suits telling me where to buy my medical insurance, how to speak so I don't hurt someone's feelings, not to act a certain way towards a certain person or group---I was taught all of that by my mother. Again I don't need politicians or anyone else, for that matter, to indoctrinate me. He sat in the pews of that church for 20 some-odd years listening to that clown run his yap about how bad the blacks have it. Well, since 1965 or so, they've had everything handed to them. Including every right to make something of themselves. What do you see? Dumbing down of schools. Overcrowded prisons. Anybody want to take a shot at who has the most out of wedlock births? I'm sorry and I'll probably get banned, but this country is SHOT and Obama will just finish it off. If you really want an eye opener, Google one of Obama's big supporters: Mailk Shabbazz. The leader of the new black panthers and spawn of malcolm x. Here come the race wars they've been predicting. Americans need to take the rose colored glasses off and get the stars out of their eyes. The day he enters the white house, God forbid, you can start the countdown clock to the complete meltdown of this country. At least Hillary is up front about how she is. Truth be known, I wouldn't give a tinker's damn for anyone running.
