Re: Does Frontrunner = Qualified
"Either" meaning Obama and Hellary or Hunter and Thompson?
You have to remember that we ARE at war with a bunch of half-crazed Islamic fundamentalists who would rather cut our heads off than look at us. FDR did worse than Bush during WWII. It came out not that long ago about all the wiretaps he did--without ANYONE'S approval or knowledge. Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon as well. Unfortunately, the "secretive shadow government" has been slowly eroding our rights since Abraham the Great was in office. Remember him? He suspended habeus corpus among other things. Until we get what the founders envisioned we will continue swirling down the crapper into a distant memory and Orwell's vision in 1984 will be the sad reality until another generation gets the nerve to say "enough!" If Hillary Clinton had her way, the whole country would be looking to the damn government for everything. Did you ever read "It Takes a Village"? The title alone tells you what this prize has on her mind. The whole thing is pure out socialist doctrine. I get the impression you are sympathetic to the Clintons. I wish they would go away and leave us--ALL of us--alone. The other day she said "I have so many opportunities for the country" Freudian slip or shades of things to come? I trust no politician and especially a Clinton or Kennedy. I won't say anymore about the Clintons. I get the feeling this could become nasty and I won't let that happen. Reply as you wish, but I won't open this thread again. I've said enough already. |

Re: Does Frontrunner = Qualified
Hey Joe (if you're reading, and I hope you are... good open debate is never personal to me... just a trading of thoughts), I wouldn't say I'm sympathetic to the Clintons. Seriously. I would also say though that I felt things were better in general for the country when Bill was in office. Specifically economically (a surplus budget finally), and in general "world view" of our country. Yes, I was referring to Obama and Clinton as the "either"... because you mentioned their names as the two that would probably bring a socialist slant to their administrations (if they were to win).
As for the fanatic Islamists, I agree they are a problem. I also think they've been fighting amongst themselves for thousands of years, and we put our nose's into a hornet's nest that we didn't have to. To try to bring democracy to them, is like trying to force a caveman to use an Ipod. They have no concept of what it is, and it's a folly to try to force it on them. (IMO) The American public was sold a package of lies and misdirected platitudes about what's going on over there, and those were used to invade a country that had nothing to do with the original offense (9/11, chase down Bin Laden till he's caught, the world supported us on that point, but to redirect the main focus to a country that had shaky ties at best?). No connections were made, no proof shown. What's worse (IMO again) is that the administration in power right now, tried to make it sound as if they, and they alone, kept this country safe from invasion and threats. Who kept us safe between Pearl Harbor and 9/11? (as far as horrendous attacks on these shores). If they're doing such a wonderful job, why is it that the vaunted color code system about our safety has never once gone down below orange? You can't keep the public at that level of heightened "fear" forever! Aware yes, vigilant yes... but it's like the boy who cried wolf, eventually, folks stop listening. Not out of apathy, but out of exhaustion. I just feel that whoever is in office, should try to level with the nation (with honesty, but you're right, that's been eroding for years, i.e. Kennedy and the Bay of Pigs, Johnson's profiteering with Viet Nam, Nixon and Watergate) instead of telling us what we "want to hear". Even if the message is "we're in it deep, and it's going to take awhile for us to dig out... but here's how we can start..." I'd prefer that over trying to continuously scare us into "stay the course". My biggest problem is.... I have YET to see a single candidate, that I feel can do this, WOULD do this, or even have that much "change" planned in their promises. They chant on and on about change, but they haven't really said how. Give us a plan, not another slogan. Nothing personal here Joe. Just a difference in viewpoints. That's never a bad thing... it's what makes democracy work. If we all had the same ideas, and feelings... THEN we'd be a socialist society!Last edited by DarkKnight : 01-17-2008 at 12:43 PM. Re: Does Frontrunner = Qualified
I would love to be able to throw facts out there about people, however, you hear so much about the candidates but how do you verify it? I have people send me emails constantly stating 'facts' about candidates, then they attach the link to http://www.snopes.com verify the 'facts', then you go look it up & the snopes page and these facts are contradicted. Not that I believe everything on snopes, but if someone posts it with their email, before I would send it on, I will verify it.
I wait until some of the options withdraw, and the field is narrowed and I will choose the one I feel would be the best for me. We all agree that there needs to be change, but how do we get it? I'm not sure, but I'm open to ideas. I will say that healthcare needs some help here. My father has worked his entire life in his own business, he is now retired, has been sick, and even with his health insurance and medicare, he is spending over $700 a month on medicines. When some one can come into this country with nothing and get immediate medical attention for free (basically), there is a problem. Until it gets down to the nitty gritty, I will listen to all, look at who I like best, but if I like the guy who can't afford to stay in the race, I am still forced to make a choice of the lesser of the evils. I will do more thorough and in depth research at that time. Okay, back to work for me. |

Re: Does Frontrunner = Qualified
Hey, thanks a million. I forwarded the link to my sister and put her in charge of looking into it. Unfortunately, I think they have already looked into some things like that. But, I will verify that this weekend and let you all know. It's one of those things I guess they (my parents) are too rich to be poor, and too poor to be rich....I know they get the drugs at wally world already, (mom works there to pass the time) Thanks again

Re: Does Frontrunner = Qualified
Ok, so now I got to get all up on my soap box and spew a while. First, I’m 53, I watched Kennedy get shot on TV live and remember it. That don’t make me wiser than a 19 year old but I have seen things change a lot that you may not have. I can honestly say with no reservation that the mess we are in is OUR fault. We did not clog the streets in protest to anything. We watched our parents loose every thing and did not have the intestinal fortitude to demand a country who could provide health care. We watched TV while wars were launched in foreign lands with no validity. We let oil companies buy the government. We let our tax money build countries while we have one seventh the population in some government assist. We fed entire countries while vets starve on the streets. We deserve what we are getting, because we let it happen. Our daily lives have become selfish hours of I need this and that, while your land is raped, your people starve, your sick die poor and education is for them with money, not minds. We let it happen. We’ve forgotten the Boston Tea Party, and that these actions make change. Can we still make Positive Change ? I say no, because we will continue to demand American Idol, and not American Soil. When we learn to band together again, we can change things. By the way,, learn Spanish. It will be your national language in 20 years. Hopefully I’ll still have a Harley, though it will run on nitrogen an emit water vapor.
