Re: Oil Pump Problem - Newbie in Virginia

Oh, no pinion. Just looking at the main drive shaft and it looked okay. Aligned the pump as per instructions with a couple of screw posts from George's Garage while turning the rear wheel (that was a (edited). Pump is putting out about 42 psi cold. Took the rocker covers back off and re-did the breathers (inside "sponge" was dry(?)). Working up the courage to restart it. I DON'T WANT TO TEAR IT APART AGAIN!! But that's next.

All is good. I didn't have two the push rod covers seated properly into the head. After a spring cap retainer fell off (!) last night I have alot of cleaning to do but no leaks.

How's this for a kick in the crotch. Washed, waxed, cleaned, scrubed, started bike - oil light stays on. Put a gauge on it - reading ZERO! Tearing it apart.

Re: Oil Pump Problem - Newbie in Virginia

Tore the bike down again and the first gerotor is shattered. I guess I didn't put it on like the book said (thought I did). Could something else cause this? Bent main shaft? And could that be caused by overheating? I'm going for another pump and hope this one will work.

You may want to check the run out of the shaft(main shaft?) that drives the pump with a dial indicator.
