kickstand spring

Hey Everyone,
Is there a trick to getting the kickstand spring back on? I'm having a hell of a time with it. I'd appreciate some advise, thank you.

If you remove the nut and lock plate that is on the top of the stand, it actually pivots forward so you can attach the spring real easy.
