I would not get the dressing on the tread...Kinda like gilder just to the white wall. I apply it with a sponge I never spray in on the tire itself. Thanks for the info...Did I misunderstand something here...along with it creating a unpredictable situation its also damages the tire even if its just on the side wall?

Re: Tire Dressing

I don't think it would do any damage to the tire as long as it were made for rubber.

Re: Tire Dressing

For rubber products use Silicone based items wont damage the side wall, petrol based degrades the rubber -bad, and steel wool dude dont laugh, i watched a kid wash my car years ago with a scouring pad (scotch brite) you know the green things for scrubbing metal was the cleanest my car came out and i was stunned no scratches thankfully

Great advice. Even too much just on the sidewall will spin out onto the tread once you get riding. I would even be concerned that rain or other water may spread that slick substance onto the tread.
Clean and dry rubber shouldn't look dull. Clean it right and your tires should look fine and last years. If your tires are so old that the sun has a chance to degrade the rubber....YOU'RE NOT RIDING ENOUGH!

Re: Tire Dressing

Try Black Shoe polish.. Paste.. then buff them up. Make sure the tire is clean first...

Re: Tire Dressing

Try using an SOS pad and water, it is not shiny but will take the dirty look away. Be careful to stay off the rims if aluminum.

Re: Tire Dressing

any of the ones at your local auto store will work just fine.
once it soaks in a bit it will not cause you any problems.
If you get the stuff on your brake rotors it may take a couple stops to clean it off.
And you may want to go easy using it on brake pedal and running boards it can may them a bit slick for a short time.
I been using the stuff for years. I do like to rub it on rather than spray, it can be a bit messy when sprayed.

Re: Tire Dressing

How about products for the white wall tyres? What do people use on them?
Granted,i've yet to clean my FLSTN,but a big part of the bike's looks is those
big white rings. When they go dirty brown, they make the whole bike look shabby, unloved and decidedly secondhand.
