These are my choices in what I run in my bike which I feel after trying many different brands are serving me the best.

Mobil1VTwin in the engine...
HD Formula+ in the primary...
Spectro GL5 trans oil in the trans...

An online source for Spectro oils...

Thank you for the information -

My main issue is when you go the HD shop and they tell you point blank to put syn3 in all my holes - sounds funny but really thats kinda how I feel. When pressed - which I did - I got 3 different answers on what else I could put in the primary. Thank you for the information here that allows us to make informed decisions. Went with M1 Syn and Spectro HDuty in the primary.

Good choices.
They tell you to use the syn 3 because they sell it. We don't sell anything but we offer the combined knowledge of many years of what works and what doesn't work.
After that you can make the logical choice.

Re: Oil Suggestions For Harleys

Thanks glider for the info, helped alot.I changed my trans oil to Bel Ray(I have no idea what was in it before). When I went to check the level after riding it appeared foamy, that didn't make me feel any better about bel ray.I was less impressed when shifting from 1st to 2nd felt stiff after setting overnight.I searched and found this and other threads,I put in Spectro gl-1 syn 75/140,so far shifting is back to at least as good as it was, which was great for a HD.I'm not bashing bel ray but I'll not use it again.

Hard to beat the Spectro. I have tried a lot of brands and still prefer the Spectro platinum.

Re: Oil Suggestions For Harleys

After reading many of the posts I switched my transmission oil from Syn 3 to Spectro 6 Speed last weekend. I am really amazed at the "night and day" reduction in noise from 1st and 5th gears and the buttery easy of shifting, in general.

I also changed to the Specto Chaincase Oil in the primary, but since I have changed two variables, any differences in the chaincase are difficult for me to attribute to either fluid or both in combinantion.

Based on the technical data, information form this board and the dramatic change in the operation of the tranmission, I am willing bet the health of my chaincase on the Spectro product.

Just curious....how many miles on your bike?

I switched to Spectro in my trans a couple hundred miles ago (2k miles on the bike)....a very subtle improvement. Not dramatic like some report.

Neutral is easier to get......not a whole lot of difference in the shifting....maybe a just a touch better.

Had the Syn3 in it before.

They improve with mileage. The Spectro will improve about any bike especially when compared to the Syn3, it's a much better oil that is specifically made for the trans.
