Changing Your Oil (drain plugs) - 867 days old
Here's a few pics for anyone that is going to change their own oil instead of going to the dealer for service. I would advise getting a service manual for the proper torque and other info.
Here's a pic of the softail engine oil drain viewed from the top of the frame and below the frame in the first and second pics.

Oil Temp Gauge Test - 4 days old
There have been some that have seen unusually low readings on the oil temp gauges like 180*-200* that read off the oil tank like in softails more than others. Unless it is a frigid day the temps should be up in the lower 200* area.
One way to verify the accuracy of the gauge is as follows...

Oil Temp Gauge Installation - 520 days old
On the touring models, the air temp gauge which usually doesn't work properly can be switched to an oil temp gauge with minimal fuss.
Here's a decent unit that will work well and is a pretty good match for the black faced Harley gauges.

Oil Changing - 311 days old
Here's a way of keeping the drain oil off the engine when doing an oil change. There's many other ways also like cutting a 32 ounce bottle open lengthwise to catch the drain oil if you have the room to fit it in there.

With the cam chain tensioners of past years (up to 07) , it's important to monitor the oil filter for the contents and act accordingly if you find those orange flakes in the pleats of the filter before it takes out your oil pump or engine.
Here's one that I made from parts lying around that I had.
