Thumbs down Oil Dipstick Blowout

I had something strange happen yesterday. The oil cap/dipstick came/blew off the oil tank. What a mess!!!!!!!!!!! I had oil all over the place. Thankfully I did not loose the cap/dipstick.

I bike is 07 Heritage with 6500 miles. It had the oil changed within the last 1500 miles and has not had any recent modifcations.

Any ideas on what happened? Is it okay to drive or do I need to have it serviced?

Re: Oil Dipstick Blowout

Check the oil level, if it is overfilled this can happen.

Re: Oil Dipstick Blowout

Kinda strange, but for 2010 several models including the Sportster received an oil tank "pressure release valve"...so apparently overfilling and high pressure are indeed a MOCO recognized...uhhh, need for an "enhancement".

My brother-in-law's friend lost three of them on his sportster while riding. He started to wipe the oil off the rubber seal after checking his oil. Never lost another one.
