Wouldnt the 5 micron be a little restrictive?

Why would it be restrictive if the system was designed for the 5 micron to be used.

Im just thinking of smaller holes, You know like blowing through a straw compared to a water hose. Can a 5 micron flow as good as a 15 or 20 micron?

Re: Oil Filter Poll

To explain that simply, the difference between the evo and TC oiling systems is one is high flow, low pressure and the other is low flow high pressure. Don't try putting a 5 micron on an evo. You can figure the rest out.

Read this.

Re: Oil Filter Poll

check out the filters at gopurepower.com that is what I use on both my bike and my KW, I buy an extra media so have a clean element when changing oil + filter, rinse the dirty element in solvent and put it through a couple of cycles in the dishwasher with the dishes.

I for one seriously doubt any oil filter that claims 5 additional HP by using that filter. I also notice that nowhere do they mention the micron rating of the filter. 5 Micron is suggested by HD for the TC engines, I don't see how a reusable filter with a cleanable mesh element could filter out the harmful contaminants that would do the damage to the engines.
If I remember correctly, I believe this filter is a 35 micron rating.
The smallest particles most popular "full Flow" filters capture with high efficiency are sized 25 to 40 Microns, depending on the filter brand.

Re: Oil Filter Poll

I will too Steve

If you figure out the $200 for that filter above verses your regular change intervals, the engine will be long gone before there is a $$ benefit realized IMO.

I never would buy that a change in filter alone would benefit in any horsepower increase however I believe that a check will reveal that the stainless screen used in the purepower filter is 5 to 7 microns. I have been using their filter in my KW almost since I purchased it new, I now have 2.8 million KM on the engine, I use Mobil Delvac in everything I own including my Hardley Davidson. I also on my KW with a 3406E 550 HP Cat use a bypass filter from TF Hudgins called a spinner (it is a centrifuge filter and is the only filter capeable of taking out diesel particulate), I run oil samples regularly and my wear metals are extremely low. I DO OIL CHANGES ON MY TRUCK YEARLY about 300,000 KM, the thing has never had an inframe my only main prob being a burn't valve at which time I replaced the head and installed a new camshaft. My cat dealer cannot believe the mileage I have gotten. When they installed the new head the mechanic did not correctly set the backlash on the cam gear and the motor spun the front cam bearing and lost top end oil pressure, when they took it apart for repair I made them pull out the oil cooler to check for debris and check the oil pump, the purepower filter caught everything. For me there is no other oil or filter and now with the new synthetic Mobil Delvac one can go that route as well. One other thing you can go to any truckstop in North America and buy Delvac. As for the piston cooling jets in your harley clogging up if you look ar one you could pass a 28 gauge wire through so clogging should not ber a poroblem unless your 5 micron filter that passes 90 % of it oil through the bypass all the time allows enough junk through to plug them.
