The TC engines use a 5 micron rating and as such the "full flow" filter may have an advantage as far as serviceability and reuse but as far as filtering goes, there's better.

K&N is the only way to go............that welded 14mm nut on the end is a miracle when doing your own services.

That's why I use the HD filters. They are 5 micron rated and I believe the K&N are 20 micron which isn't suggested for the newer engines..

Re: Oil Filter Poll

Here's something more to think about.
Todays oil, due to emission requirements, is designed to keep combustion related contaminates in suspension within the oil as it circulates.
The main contaminate created are carbon and soot particles...which are also responsible for making your oil black as it gets more miles on it.
The more efficient your filter is, the more of these suspended particles it will remove and trap in the filter media as it passes thru. Hence, a 5 micron rated filter is much better than a 20 micron rated filter.
Keep in mind, carbon is a very hard substance. It will damage bearings, and score crankshaft journals and cylinder walls.
It is in the best intrest of your engine...(and your wallet)...to remove as many of these particles as possible.

more is not always better trying to filter out particles to small can end up with plugged filter tha goes into bypass and is not filtering at all,or reduced oil flow. Not only in motorcycles but many after market filters have been known to fall short in the bypass. On our Cats company requires we only use cat filter except in emergences and then we must change back asap. To many engine problems over the years due to aftermarket will fit filters.
Best course of action is to use the filter recommened by those that built it.

Some thing to think most of our track equipment the engine run HYD then HYD runs everything. With proper filter HYD oil is cleaner after being in machine a year than whenit was put in fresh. We use a sealed fill system all HYD is pumped in through a sealed hose and filtered going in. YOu can never pour it in. Sounds like over kill but cut or HYD repair cost by Millions a year.

Re: Oil Filter Poll

I have used the amsoil filter for some time now and amsoil rates ther filters at 15 microns, maybe the HD filter is what I should be using, any thoughts?

Re: Oil Filter Poll

There's a reason why Harley specked the filters at 5 microns. I use only HD filters.

K&N are 20 micron
Amsoil is 15 micron
Pure one is 22 micron
