You may want to consider the Formula+ from the dealer as it's not a synthetic and better on the clutch discs, also a bit less expensive too.

Re: Primary Lube Poll

Glider and anyone else that is intrested.
Yesterday I decided to stop using F+. I am going to switch to the REDLINE Sny primary lube. I have questioned them and they stand by the product in the primary so here goes.
I will put it in the 07 RG at 25,000 mile change coming up soon depending on snow fall.
And it will go in the 96 FB about the same time.
We'll see how it does if it cost me a clutch down the road It will not be the first mistake I have made.
The FB should be a real good test as the cluctch has a lot of miles on it and works fine if it goes to hech we will know why.
Heres Redlines claim:
V-Twin Primary Case Oil
"Red Line’s new V-twin Primary Case Oil is designed specifically for ’84-to-present V-Twin American motorcycle engines, including aftermarket engines of similar designs. Similar to our MTL, this product is for use in the primary chaincase with wet-diaphragm spring clutches. "

"Designed to operate over a wide temperature range, this Primary Case Oil improves clutch operation while reducing wear and temperature. Where most synthetics are too slippery for clutch operation, this friction-balanced product is balanced to provide less slip, smoother operation, and helps to apply more power in modified engines."

Re: Primary Lube Poll

You probably will not see a difference until the clutch gets worn, then it will be prone to slipping with the syn. The purpose of clutch discs is for friction between them and when you add a slippery oil like synthetics to the mix, it defeats that thinking.

Best bet is to forgo the syn 3 altogether. Hugh Chavez supplies it for the MOCO besides which it is not a true synthetic anyway but a blend. There are MUCH better oils available for the same price and in some cases even cheaper than the syn3

Right-on glider..........I've read your articles on this forum about Syn3 . The last of Syn3 is in my bikes. In the future, I'll probably put Mobil1 in the engine, Formula+ in the primary, and Bel-Ray transmission fluid in the tranny.

Re: Primary Lube Poll

Made the switch today on both bikes so the test started this morning.
So far I am amazed my bike runs 20 degrees cooler 10 mph faster and clutch is so smoth you would think it was an automatic.
Ok back to earth we'll see how it goes. Redline claims the way they make this stuff it is better for the clutch. Redline has always been a stright up company so we will see.
It does look and feel different than gear oil and engine oil. I know that may mean nothing really.
What I did have on both both bikes when I drained them was the same thing I have always found with F+ fuzz. Wonder how plug will look when I drain this stuff?
07RG 24,000 mile 96FB 46,000 miles so it should be a good test.
