Re: Trans Oil Poll

IMO, Bell Ray puts out some quality products, if you check into the specifics for them, I think there are better products available with different additive packages.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

well i am a new owner and i will be changing tranny oil, but i have done some research on the spectro oil, which seems by all the comments very great. But it says it mainly for spherical cut gears to quite the tranny down. besides the gl5 rating, what other differences are there compared to the spectro platnum transmission fluid with the gl1 rating?? im trying to decide????

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Basically you can use either the GL1 or the GL5. The GL5 had more additive package for the helical gears in the 6 speed but will work in either. For the same price I think I would opt for the GL5 in the 5 speeds. The Spectro's claim to fame really isn't to quiet things down, just to make it shift easier and last longer being a gear oil instead of an engine oil. It will quiet things a bit due to the heavier qualities than a plain motor oil.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

well thank you, the spectro oil is kinda hard to find in my area, but i did opt to go with the 6 speed this morning and ordered some. thanks for the info tho. Even tho i did consult the dealer in my area and they said that the syn 3 is the way to go. I asked if that would satisfy the pressure inhibitng prpoerties needed in hypoid oil, but they could only tell me thats what they recommend.........kinda dont think i can consult them to much. so all in all im glad i found this place..... thank you all

Amen to that. They usually only recommend what they sell for obvious reasons. My dealer handles Spectro and a few other brands too. It's nice to see a dealer that doesn't believe in "one size fits all"

Glad to have you here!

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I put the Royal Purple 75/140 in my tranny today and rode to work and back. Made a big differance in the smootheness of going form neutral to 1st gear for sure.

Glider is right.

I changed my trans oil to the spectro platinum the other day and even though mine is a 5 speed it has never shifted this easy or this smooth,i've tried them all and this is the best by far,the more i ride the better it get's,a little costly but well worth it.thank's for the tip.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I finally got out to ride my bike with the Spectro. I am pretty sure it was a great improvement. I had noticed that I can now shift the bike into neutral much easier when it is parked & has not been run. (I used to not be able to get neutral 'easily' that way).

So, today, I wanted to ride to work, but I'm not that tough, 37* in the driveway, 31* in a couple of spots along the way (35 miles is too much for me). I was being economical though, I drove the Blazer to work, then, for my lunch, I drove back home & parked the Blazer & got the bike. Where there is a will, there is a way.

At first, I didn't really notice any great improvement, but I figured it would get better as the bike warmed up. And it did! Since there was not much shifting after I left my driveway, I didn't notice it until I got off the expressway. The bike sounded real good, ran smooth, and the shifting was very smooth.....

I'm not sure how to describe the feeling other than it was smoother. I can still get a bit of the 'clunk' if I shift into first when I still have a bit of speed, (not much, but fast enough that I know I don't want to let out on the clutch going that fast)

Thanks for the recommendation Glider. Next ? Should I change the fluids sooner since I just recently put the new combination of fluids in the bike, or will I be okay to run it as is. The last 2 seasons, I only managed to get 2100 miles & 2400 miles or so respectively. We are planning on riding more this year and not flying as much.

I may be guilty of wanting to do the project again just to see how easy it really is. But, we are going to do hubby's bike this weekend. I might get my fix!

I would say with your miles traveled to do the change once a season. If you put more miles on the bike, then go by the accumulated miles then or follow your maintenance schedule.
No need to replace what you just put in there.

Glad you like the spectro.
