Feel free to give your comments on it also.

I use Spectro 6 Speed trans oil 75/140.
I have some questions about the product.
1. they do not respond to email requset about the product .
seems no one is home.
2. no one sells it.
if it were that great it would be all over the place.
3.BMW does use it but they have had a fair share of transmission problems. To be fair They do not call it GL5.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Hey Smitty, I found the Spectro products at a Suzuki dealer, when I got mine, the guy there said it was great stuff. When I went to the Harley dealer to pick up the filter & primary oil, he asked if I need anything for the tranny, I told him what I was going to use, and he said that the Spectro was great stuff and that was what he used....I thought that was interesting, when I asked him where he got his Spectro, he named the place I had just left. Don't know for sure yet, as my stuff is still in the bottles in the garage, but I think it will be pretty good.

Good luck.

1 They are only too happy to speak to you on the phone as I and others have found out.
2 My HD dealer sells it, also the yamaha dealer locally.Maybe if they knew you wanted some, they would call you up.
3 What problems has BMW had with their trans, was it due to lubrication or other parts not up to specs, let's compare apples to apples. What does BMW call it if not GL5, Gear oil, trans lube? Common give us a hint here.

Looks like Smitty doesn't like Spectro

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Glider have you looked at this from Spectro site ?
Technical Knowledge

According to the way I read this the Heavy Duty Platinum 6 Speed Transmission
oil
Could damage rubber or did I miss something. really not a good idea to spill any kind of oil on anything it's not intended for.
I am not aginst trying new products I just find It strange that in Wisconsin were there are more Hd's than you can count it would be so hard to find.
BMW dealer just calls it Spectro lube and does not say witch one they use
At 52 I have seen a lot of latest and greatest come and go.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Spectro-6 Speed. Very Happy With It!
Feels like a new ride...Well It Is...But, Can Defiitely "Feel" and "Hear" the difference.
I had no issues getting them to respond to me, and they made a follow up call to make sure I was satisfied with the product and if there was anything else they could do for me. (Make a few payments?)

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Smitty

It's not just this oil that will deteriorate rubber, just about any oil deteriorates rubber parts. Only thing I have seen worse than oil on rubber on say the front motor mount is the people that use brake cleaner to remove it from the rubber motor mount and think that's OK to do.

As it said on the Spectro site that if the seal goes in the trans that it will react on the drive belt. I think you'll find that to be true with any other gear oil also.

All I can say is if you don't feel comfortable with the Spectro, then find an oil you do feel comfortable with.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Smitty I just put the mobil 1 75-90w synthetic in my trans. but have not had it out for a good ride.I will let you know what I think of it. It still clunks when you drop it into first but thats A Harley and I wouldn't stop that even if I could.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Mobil1 75/90. It replaced the stealer installed Syn3 and made for much improved shifting. No hunting for Neutral and quieter clunk into 1st.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Nobody's mentioned Bel Ray products. Is there a particular reason, or is it just an average, non-standout product?

Their website shows 3 separate products for crank, primary, and tranny.
