The Spectro platinum is even better yet.
Thanks Glider!

I've been looking for the Spectro, but no one carries it around here, and I wanted to service my bike before this weekend. I may try and order it online and wait a little while longer on the service. It's not quite to my normal service interval, but it's been pretty hot and dusty around here. Got home yesterday after sitting in a big traffic backup in 100 temps, and the oil temp was up to 265.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Based on this thread I ordered two quarts of Spectro six-speed from Bob's Cycle Supply. It arrived within a couple of days and I put it in the Geezer Glide on August 1. I have only ridden the bike three times since then and only relatively short distances. It seems like it is shifting better each time I ride it. Is this psychological or is it making a distinctive click instead of a loud clunk when shifting. Does it get better with mileage? So far, so good! Thanks for all the good scoop.

It took a few hundred miles on mine before I noticed a signifigant improvement in fifth gear, but the click instead of clunk when shifting came right away.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I think putting "6 speed" on the bottle is like putting "4x4" on a motor oil bottle.... just a marketing method. The back of the bottle is more important, GL-5. I bet it would work fine in an old 3 speed saginaw or an 18 speed Allison too, despite "being designed for a 6 speed".

I'm not judging the oil, I've never used it, I'm insulted by the labeling/ marketing...

Probably close to right there but if you read the additive package in the oil like spectro makes, the 6 speed with the helical gears gets a different additive package but would work in many applications in any event. Check the oil section of the self help area for the additive package differences.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Just switched to spectro GL1 I noticed the old fluid I took out looked real thick and guey like carmel mmmm and the spectro was alot smoother looking. Thanks Glider for the spectro tip it seems like a great product and by the way I took your advice and bought a manual for my bike. WOW I cant believe I paid someone all that money to put who knows what in my bike at least I know whats in there now. Mobil1-Spectro GL1- formula+

Re: Trans Oil Poll

Way to go. The manual should be included in any purchase of a bike. There's so much the owners can do with it.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I just swapped from the Syn3 to Spectro Platinum for 6 speeds yesterday. Is $12.99 a decent price? A noticable difference in the 5th gear whine. Also wanted to thank everyone for all the info here on this site. So far, no questions unanswered. Thanks again!
