Spectro platium can be hard to find also if you do not have a place check thier web site it worth the effort. I talked my local HD dealer into carrying it so it is real easy to get.
Another great option for a 5 speed in Redline shock proof heavy

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I like to use Redline in the tranny, but just like for my engine, I will use Royal Purple, Amsoil, or Mobil 1 if I need to. They have all worked well for me.

Re: Trans Oil Poll

I had an oil change service done by an Indy shop. He put Syn-3 in all three holes. Can any harm be done to the primary and the transmission if Syn-3 is used as opposed to a gear oil?

In the long run it will wear faster. The magnet on the drain plug will give you the results in the forum of gear material (fuzz) on the magnet which is best to use.
Gear oil in the trans and a non synthetic in the primary. Speaking of which the Syn3 is made by Hugo Chavez and is NOT a true synthetic but rather a blend of other base stock oils and modified from there. You can get much better products for less money than the Syn 3.

Plenty of info on this as well as products in the different areas of the self help forum.

With Glider on this 99%.
SNY 3 is an ok engine oil not bad not the best not a true SNy there for not able to provide the protection of a true SNY.
There are far better true SNY oils. any of witch are high quialty.
Tranmission would you put gear oil in your engine? I think not then why try to get away with engine oil in gear box.
Two different sets of gears 6 speed and 5 speed.
Spectro Platium for 6 speeds is IMO best for both
Redline Shock proof heavy is a great option of either one
then you have other High quialty products that work very well M1 gear oil , royal purple ect. Any of witch are far better than SNY3.
Primary for the most part thinking is and has been no sny in there HD F+.
However new way of thinking new products Spectro and Redline make Lubes for the primary that are sny and they claim are prfect for primary now.
THEY ARE MADE for primary special additives to protect the clutch.
I am trying the redline in both my bikes in the primary now. I trust these two companys.
Last reason if for no other not to use SNY3 is HUGO. If you need Hugo explained just ask.
Nice bike enjoy your ride

Hay smitty! Is the M1 not good for the wet clutch? They claim that it is on the bottle. What would the difference be from syn to dino on the clutch?

IMO no. it may work but it is an engine oil and has additives designed to lube and engine, Not a wet clutch.
M1 vtwin is a very good engine oil.
The SNY products that Redline and Spectro make for the primary are designed for the primary they have a makeup that is for wet cluthes not engines so just as I wold not put M1 in the primary I would not but either of those primary lubes in my engine.
Safe bet is F+ in primary for now i quess.
I will know befor to long on my test MY FB has 47,000 on the clutch so if the redline SNY is going to be a problem it should show up on the FB. I tend to ride it a little hard some times.
I have not had the weather to ride much sence the change on either bike.
But what riding I have done it seems ok so far.
As for M1 and every other engine oil out there they say you can use it that does not make it the best way to go IMO
