No , don't get me wrong. I think synthetic oil is very a good oil to use in an air cooled motor, just not the syn 3 oil and especially NOT in the transmission. Use a gear oil in there.
Syn 3 is not a true synthetic, rather it's a group 3 oil. True synthetics like Mobil 1 ,Redline and many others are a group 4 and a much better choice.

Synthetics will stand up to more heat without breaking down than dino oil will.

Here's some more on it.

don't got to worry 'bout that around here.....that was just an easy way to pass on some good info from someone not trying to sell a product. (IE amsoil) It's alway hard for me to believe a test result from some that stand to make a $$$. Not saying Amsoil isn't a good oil, I just think there's probably others that are good too. From personal experience and IMO SYN 3 isn't one of the good ones.

Ride Safe

Re: Engine Oil Poll

I use the Mobil 1 Vtwin. Not because I think it's better than any other synthetic, but because I can get it around the corner at the local Auto-Zone at 6 AM on the day I'm supposed to leave on a road trip.

Oh, and I agree with the comment on using motor oil in the tranny. DON'T do it!. Gear oil has very different properties than motor oil. I also wouldn't put gear oil in my motor, but that's another thread, I think....

Re: Engine Oil Poll

Oil threads are never ending and what it comes down to is which oil you prefer. With a few exceptions pretty much any oil will do the job. It just depends on which one makes you feel warm and fuzzy
I like the Mobil 1 V Twin myself.
