I use amsoil 20-50 in the crankcase and primary,amsoil 75-90 in the tranny.I noticed a big difference in the tranny right away.I have thought about the availabilaty of amsoil on the road but figured I could add a good syn if I had too.I havent used a quart of oil between changes, every 5000 miles

No , don't get me wrong. I think synthetic oil is very a good oil to use in an air cooled motor, just not the syn 3 oil and especially NOT in the transmission. Use a gear oil in there. Syn 3 is not a true synthetic, rather it's a group 3 oil. True synthetics like Mobil 1 ,Redline and many others are a group 4 and a much better choice. Synthetics will stand up to more heat without breaking down than dino oil will.
