Please, let us know what you think of the Spectro.
I have used the spectro and it's a very good oil.

Here goes, Once you get to the quialty of M1, Speacro or Redline 100% sny engine oil your at the top and any difference is not going to madder IMO.
I like the Spector oil ,Motorcycles are thier focus it is not a side line.
Second the Spectro platium 20/50 seems to run quieter in my bikes than M1 did and the oil presure seems to run a bit higher even when warmed up.
My HD dealer stocks Spectro and M1 will not work with them so I use Spectro for all the above reasons.
I have used M1 VTWIN and have nothing aginst it.

TQ, Why change the filter every 1000 miles... it also could wear out the threads on the adapter/block.

Was there something wrong that you would have sufficient debris floating around in the oil that it would clog element before the normal change interval?

I have installed the oil filter adapter as part of installing a Jagg 10-row low mount oil cooler. This adapter has the oil filter center "bolt" in it. This is pretty stout, and I am not worried about wearing out the threads on it since the oil filter is screwed on only hand tight anyway.

But the truth be told, I had a bunch of Wix filters that I wanted to use up. These filters are a high quality filter, but not rated down to the 5 microns Harley claims for their filters. As soon as I use up my stash, I will go back to replacing the filter with an HD filter when I change my oil. Since I can't find out who is making the HD filters for Harley Davidson, and I can't find a third-party filter claiming 5 microns, I guess I am stuck with HD. In the mean time, I will change the filters at approximately 1,000 mile intervals until I use up my Wix.

TQ

TQ

I heard somewhere that Champion makes the filters. Not sure of it but it seems to ring a bell.

Thanks for the clarification, I had heard that there were guys who like to wrench their Harleys' A LOT usually out of necessity, but every 1000 miles seemed a wee bit extreme...

Rider has the right to do what ever they want with thier bike.
How ever changing filter every 1000 miles is a waste of time and money no madder how you look at it.
If you have a case of lower quialty filters changing them every 1000 miles does not chnage the fact they are low quialty filters.
If your running quialty HD filters, quialty engine oil unless you encounter some extreme conditions there is no reason to change oil or filter any more often than service requires.
Now ride has the right to do as they please with thier bike.
If it helps owner sleep at night changing it every 2500 miles then have at it. The oil and filter companys will gladly sell you all the oil and filter you need.
Extreme conditions can be but not limited to:
Short trips
A lot of stop and go
Extreme cold or heat
Dusty roads
Very wet conditions and or long periods of high humity

Thumbs up Re: Engine Oil Poll

Amsoil dose testing on there motor oil compared to syn 3. You can find this info on there website. Also you can use the motor oil for your primary and tranny. It is a little more expensive, but so is a harley.

The info on the Amsoil web page IMO is brainwashing. The testing is paid for by Amsoil so what results would you think they would publish?
Amsoil has recently changed some of their advertising as far as what oils can be used where which in the past suggested other applications use a different oil.
You are much better off using a gear oil in the trans and not a motor oil.

One oil cannot do the job of many different oils and do it effectively. Use a gear oil that was designed for just that in the trans .

Full agreement on you with this one.
Amsoil does a good job of planting them self in nearly ever seacrh you do on oil subjects and putting people in every bike fourm theres is they have been acting that way for years.
Amsoil is a ok sny oil and not a bad product just not what they make it out to be.
GEAR lube in the trans if you want it to last
