Re: Engine Oil Poll

Just switched to mobil 1 v twin 20/50, was on dino oil before. Engine is quieter now and runs about 10 degrees cooler according to my oil filler gauge.

Thats a good oil. Do not be suprise if the first time you change it the oil seems a little darker. Hard to tell much from oil color now day but I have noticed on some the first M! change the oil was darker in color.
I am switching over to Spectro 20/50 but for my own reasons nothing wrong with M1

Re: Engine Oil Poll

And on your recommendation:

I have four quarts of Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 sitting in my garage awaiting a final oil change before leaving for Sturgis. I look forward to the confidence I will have on the road.

Pack a little oil for the trip you can mix any other oil with it if needed but best to take a little along M1VTWIn can be harded to find on the road.
In the past It seems that the first change over to M1Vtiwn my bikes used a little. Your may not have the same thing happen but if it does I would not lose any sleep over it .
Your bike will tahnk you for the change

I did use a bit of oil on the way to Sturgis and back. A Mobile oil rep (at the Sturgis Mobile Oil vendor site) gave me a half quart of his own oil to top off my engine. What a great guy. He was riding a RKC also, said he was over 12,000 miles on his engine oil.

Re: Engine Oil Poll

I am a new member to the Harley community, but from old school roots. I thought initial engine breakin required "dino-oil" and that after breakin using 100% synthetic was fine...

You have 3 different compartments of oil in your bike unless it's a sportster.
Hi, I just got my 2004 Sportster XL1200RS and wanted to know the three different compartments Sportster exception discussed above. I thought the Oil Tank held the engine oil (the oil pan is a "dry" sump design), Primary Gear Oil was held in the left side side (lubricating gears & oil wetted clutch) and where is the 3rd...Primary Chain compartment? I am a newbie so please be patient; cars and UJM sportbikes were my primary interest early on before this Harley.
