AMSOIL- A brief history

I thought network or multi level marketing was a "plan" where a whole bunch of guys have their hand in the sale and all make profit. I am familiar with the old pyramid sales such as tupperware, Amway, ete etc and in these they try to recurite others to sell, those recruits recrute other and on and on and on. I use to get bombarded by guys wanting to show me a business opportunity and it was always Amway or some other scheme, Never once did I sit for the pitch, always shut them down including my own younger brother.

As far as I have seen anyone can become an amsoil dealer and sell to who ever they want, you are never recruited by anyone and I believe you pay a small dealer fee. The dealers get the oil from the supplier and supplier gets it from amsoil. (suppliers may be owned by amsoil so possibly all dealers get it directly from amsoil, not verified this however.) So where is the network? As far as I can see there is the manufacturer possibly one middle man and a dealer.

I buy Amsoil directly from a Supplier and this is on a friends commerical account, I wont become a dealer as I have no interest. When I get my oil I usualy pick up some for friends and they pay what I do. I get it cheeper than the dealers do and cheeper than you can get mobile one or any other synthetic oil for that matter. I buy it because of price and quality.

Ok, did very brief internet search using Amsoil Network Marketing and did find quite a few sites that push this as a MLM. Not sure Amsoil direct this however so I went on their web site and reviewed the Dealer pitch which did not look like a true MLM. However I did request the dealer package so when I get it, I will post the results.

Well even if they turn out to be a True MLM , I will still buy it based on quality and price.

Re: AMSOIL- A brief history

Personally I could care less about how I got my oil. I do care that what I buy has to be a good product and do what is has to do. All money spent by consumers goes into someones pocket one way or the other be it Wal Mart, Costco or anyone of the other big box outlets. This talk about MLM legalities is a whole other issue. Remember the little local hardware store just around the corner? Where are they now? Gone! Couldn't compete with the purchasing power of the big box outlets. Hmmm... the big guys sure couldn't give a hoot, just build a store and sell sell sell. Then there are the union issues, the wage issues, the part time issues..... I won't go on cause I am sure I will type in a bad word or two soon. SO, I guess my point is that when I buy a product I research the heck out of it, then I buy it. I have over 25 cylinders running and they all like their Amsoil to keep them happy. Whew! I gotta go have a cool one now....

Re: AMSOIL- A brief history

Not to hijack this thread but I sure like Ace Hardware over HD or Lowes. When i am over at the coast working on my boat i can alway count on ace to have everthing I need, have not been dissapointed yet. HD is right across the street and this ace is always packed so at least this one is making it.

As far as syn boat has 18cyl all on reg dino oil, -no need for syn as it does not run over 180degrees and we dont push over 3200rpms. Gen runs at 1800.

bike, jet skis and 3 cars have amsoil.

Re: AMSOIL- A brief history

I use AMSOIL products. From the surveys on this forum I see that a lot of others here use AMSOIL's products as well. As others have said, I also researched the product before I made a choice to buy it. They make good products.

I don't care about the politics and the logistics of how it gets to me. They make good products that will protect your investment as do the other Syns for air cooled V-Twin motors.

I do find it interesting that a "sticky" is being used to hold this MLM business issue about AMSOIL in focus. Why?

An MLM business structure won't change my mind on my use of their products.

I have been known to buy moonshine from MLM rednecks so maybe that is why I buy AMSOIL. :-)

It's basically for the benefit of the Amsoil spammers that come on the forum from time to time so hopefully they get the idea that it's NOT alright to spam the members for their profit.

I understand. It just didn't seem that an Oil technical forum would need this as a sticky. But OK.

Re: AMSOIL- A brief history

For those that have never sat and gone through the many post you never see , the Amsoil spammers and the like it is almost a full time job keeping them out if the mods did not do such a good job at it the site would be almost worthless.
It seems everday they come up with a new way to hijack a fourm.
This is reason ebough for me to by pass the product and warn others of how they operate.

Stop the presses!!!! I havent seen any data but I thought that amsoil was the best. I've always run SE syn. 20/50 and was considering the change to amsoil. I just want to protect my scoot I dont care what it cost.

Amsoil is a good product
I would not say it was the best for everything.
Good engine oil at least right up there with the others
But as for gear lube for the 6 speeds it will work and do a good job but no were near the product Spectro and redline are.
ANYTHING is almost better then syn 3 when you consider what you pay for it.
SYN is ok but not even in the running for best. And darn sure not for all 3 holes. IMO
