Newbie from WI

Hello to everyone on the HD forum. I am new to motorcycling. I am a 45 year old trial lawyer who has dreamed of owning a harley my entire life. Unfortunately, in my line of work, I see alot of cycle accidents and was hesitant to purchase a bike. But as time has gone on, the itch has become to hard to ignore. I have convinced my wife I am not any crazier than I once was, nor is this a mid life crisis. I just don't want to live my life wondering what if anymore.

I just passed the written test today and will be starting the Rider's Edge course tomorrow. I am very excited. I have been reading this forum for months and I am very impressed with the helpful tips that are exchanged. I am a very non mechanical person so I won't be able to provide much helpful input on that issue. But for those who may have insurance or legal questions, I might be able to help.

I am still struggling with what my first bike will be. I have been leaning towards a softail deluxe or a Road King Classic because I love the nostalgic look. But lately, the street glide has really been growing on me. I am 6 feet one inches tall and weigh 220lbs. I am not particularly attracted to the sportster or dyna models. I have read many posts stating regardless of whether this is your first bike or not, get the bike you want, not the bike you think you should have. I am curious to hear from other new riders regarding their first bike experiences.

Thanks for reading my first post. I am really looking forward to this experience.

Good luck in your search, good idea to rent a couple models your looking at or find a dealer like the one I use they let you try a few used ones out free.
Next every HD you sit on is going to feel big at first a man your size will adjust quickly so do not let size or weight scare you off one you like.
keep posting question here you get a lot of input.

Thank you Glider and Smitty for the welcome. I think Smitty's rental idea is a good one.

Re: Newbie from WI

Welcome to the forum hogie. I was in the same predicament 10 years ago. I was looking ofr my first bike and I have you by an inch and a few pounds. I would definately suggest renting to find what you like and what fits you best. For me, as much as I liked the Fat Boy, I was most comfortable on The RK. So do your research, test if you can, buy what you want or IMHO you will regret getting something you dont really want.
