Decisions on a new Harley?
Hello everyone,
I am shopping for my first Harley and I need some assitance w/ picking a bike! I have owned bikes in the past and as I approach 50 I want to own a Harley. I really like the look of the Street Bob but my wife wants to ride along and I don't think that model is practical? So do I opt for the Road King? After shopping over the past two weeks I am not sure of the look of the Road King. I would really appreciate your feedback in making my decision. A friend of mine owns a Road King and is pushing me in that direction. Pls help. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Decisions on a new Harley?
welcome to the forum. What I would recommend is take your wife to a dealership and rent some of the bikes and see which one feels the best to both of ya, then that would be the bike to buy.

Welcome to the forum. TCSTD has a great idea there to rent a harley of your choice to see what it is you like.

Re: Decisions on a new Harley?
Hi Bill
My bro in law has a Road King and racks up alot of miles with his wife. SHe is comfortable and loves it. Lots of room for yer stuff for weekend or longer rides, more than enough get and go. Good all round bide. I have a Softail Deluxe, but if your wife wants to ride you will have to get a new passenger seat and a sissy bar as a minimum. Then will come the saddle bags. I know..... :-). But the neat thing is that all of this extra stuff snaps on and off in a couple of minutes. SO you can strip down to a solo ride quickly... Also, check out your local Harley shops for their demo ride days. YOu can spend the day trying out different models. Cheers |

street bob , road king ermmm both
welcome to the forum, seriously if the bike is being used for touring or pillion duties you will need to buy the rear peg kit, pillion seat, sissy bar for Bob were as just the sissy bar for the king. |

Re: Decisions on a new Harley?
Bill,
What feels right? Many of the add-ons are just that... add-ons. Chances are, you can add what it neccessary for a passenger (not to mention looks, sound, etc.) at a later date, or even immediately when you make the purchase. But who's going to be driving it most of the time? Will your wife be riding 100% of the time? These are open-ended questions that only you, and you in your situation, can answer. As for me, I went for what felt good for me to sit and relax on (yes, relax... my idea of a Harley is kicked-back and cruisin'). Technically, the Fat-Boy (FLSTF) is more my style, and hell, the V-Rod (VSRC) would have been me if I were single... but the Heritage felt great! I just "settled" into it! Keep in mind... this is my opinion. Do what you feel. ~KelTyk
