Make old leather bags look new

I bought a set of early FLSTS bags, they are in decent shape but a touch faded, being cheap as an old penny, I'm thinking how do I make them look better...Black paste shoe polish, they look great, all shiney and new looking

I would have liked to see a before and after pic! That shoe polish is still around huh? Brings back memories of shining up my dads shoes

I'm sorry but I don't see the diff. in the two pics !??? I do see a shot of the 1st bag with the camera in one angle and the second bag in another. How about some good leather cleaner and some armor all with a shot of pledge on them??

I have a similar problem, just got my Leatherneck Jims bags and now I have to redo the old black on the tank bib, seat and tool bag...I am doing the shoe polish thang on the tool bag, but on the seating surfaces i use the leather cleaner, Lexol and am undecided about making it a darker black..."News at Eleven"...

For all my leather unless light colored leather use Mink Oil not only does it restore the shine but waterproofs it as well.. Have used it on my Seats, Saddlebags ( if leather) Jacket and Boots also ... May have some old pics on my Heritage the difference it made was unreal...Found one picture of it after it was done this was an 04 Heritage and the bags were 5 years almost .. and seen lots of Florida Sun and Rain...

Seems like a good idea to me. After all isn't leather just leather. I do not see why it wouldn't work.

Re: Make old leather bags look new

mink oil-- lots of it ------ and plain old shoe dye several coats........ you can make old saddlebags good as new leather is organic-- you have to restore occassionally oils and dye for luster and durability.

I have used Mink oil on the seat already, which is my concern about putting anything Black on it, as it will likely rub off and get on your riding apparel. My bags have a similar style, so the black contrast really shows up...so I have been dragging my feet on this.
