Memorial Day Salutations

I went to a Memorial Day service today, and got to thinking about the day's salutations that one hears.

"Happy Memorial Day" just seems wrong on a lot of levels, yet I hear it from people all the time. "Have a good Memorial Day" is a bit better, but still sounds like the day is for happy partying.

I think I will use the phrase "Have a meaningful Memorial Day". To me, at least, it suggests that one should take a moment to think about what the day was set aside to commemorate. Not a perfect salutation, I suppose, but better than some.

Totally agree with you here Prof !!! Happy isn't very good word due to the loss of life involved from the beginning of these United States of America. I like your phrase you have come up with. How about " Remember why Memorial Day" !!!!

Well that is all in how you interpret it. I would say have a happy Memorial, for we are thankful for the sacrafices that people have made for us and our country.
