New Biker Killed

This guy I know had a sport bike that he bought from his dad.He already had one sold he decided to sell it. Some guy bought it and when he was looking at it , he didn't even know where the brake /clutch was. My friend joked that he was probably going to get killed not knowing anything about the bike. Well this past Sunday morning there was a guy that hit a tree and they think speed was a factor. He was dead on the scene, and yes it was the guy that bought the bike less than a week ago. left a wife and a couple of kids behind according to the news report.

Re: New Biker Killed

Wow, I know how devastated I would be knowing if I sold a bike, only because I used to teach motorcycle safety and how important one on one instruction is for an un-skilled/un-informed rider, much less a buyer.

My prayers are with your friend, and the hapless riders' family.

Bummer for sure and I feel for all involved. I've heard of several motorcycle deaths this past week. It just just (EDIT) for sure. I sold my brother my RK and would not let him take it home until he showed me that he passed the Team Oregon Class.

Very sad story but in no way is it your friend's fault. My sincere condolences to everyone involved.

I am Sorry to Hear that, I would not have Sold the Bike to that Guy without Him knowing anything about it, That happened here at Work a while back, One of the Guys sold another a Hayabusa and with 2 Months I heard he killed Himself on the Bike, Speed was a Factor, He missed a Turn going too Fast!

Re: New Biker Killed

A good reason to:

Talk to a buyer before selling a bike to them to make sure they know all about that bike before buying it. Telling them the dangers to watch for and encouraging them to seek info and take rider courses.

A lot of new riders just see other riders flying up and down the road thinking there's nothing to it, when in reality those same people are riding irresponsibly.

Shame.

Re: New Biker Killed

We all run the risk of injury or death when riding. But it is mandantory to learn to ride before you head out on the road. Selling a used bike to someone you know doesn't know how to ride is one thing, but for a dealer to sell a bike to a non-rider is another. I (we) can not stress enough on taking a riding course before you ride in traffic. Speed will always play a factor in accidents. But it's the biker who thinks he can take the turn, but hasn't had enough road time to know that at that speed, you'll never make it. Every couple weeks I head out to the park. The parking lot has been empty so I have been practicing my tight turns and stops. You can never learn enough. I have ridden for over 40 years, but there is always something that can come up that is new to your riding experience. My new FatBob is 700 lbs. I can use all the tight turn and stop practice I can get in. You experience how wonderful riding is by riding. But you'll enjoy it more knowing you know what you doing. My prayers go out to your friend and family.
