Easily breakable
By Burt Kirchheimer (Dallas, Texas)  |  November 11, 2009
This carafe is part of a very expensive coffeemaker. It should be made a lot more sturdy so that the lightest touch on a hard surface does not break the glass. Have they thought of a metal carafe? The cost of replacement is outrageous.

Bought as a replacement
By John H. Gruver (Moss Beach, CA USA)  |  November 11, 2009
OK. I break coffee carafes. I bought this one to have as a back up since I know I'll need it presently.
I agree that it's a bit expensive, but the coffee maker it goes with make great tasting coffee so I'll suffer. What I really don't like about it (and why it get's 3-stars instead of four) is the plastic/glass interface at the top. It retains water/coffee/SOAPY WATER!!!

Horrible carafe
By Kristi M. Burgard (Wisconsin)  |  November 3, 2009
I received this coffee maker for Christmas 2008. I think it was $60. The original carafe broke within the first two months after being lightly bumped in the dish strainer. I sucked it up and paid $25 for a new carafe and it just broke while I was hand washing it the other day. To be honest, I am not going to buy $50 worth of carafes for a $60 coffee maker. I'm very disappointed that Cuisnart would produce such a poorly made product. A coffee carafe designed to hold hot coffee should not break while hand washing. I went out and bought a Mr Coffee maker for $30 with the same type of features and let me tell you the carafe itself looks way more durable. Don't waste your time or money on this coffee maker.

Good but pricey
By M. Creighton  |  November 2, 2009
Good carafe, easy to clean. I'd really like to give it 3 1/2 stars, though. It's very expensive for a carafe (twice as expensive as a Mr. Coffee) and it's size makes it a tad more prone to breakage (contact with the sink, whatever).

cuisinart replacement carafe - one small problem
By D. Kirtland  |  October 23, 2009
I've had my coffee maker for a while and the carafe ended up with a small crack so it was time to replace it. It's a great carafe but has one design flaw that is easily fixable. I was reminded of this with the replacement that I bought, so we fixed it also.
When washing it in the dishwasher, the bottom of the handle is open and therefore retains water from the wash. Just a bit irritating. So we fixed it. All you need to do is drill a tiny hole in the top of the handle and the water will drain out of the handle when you wash it. The lid covers the hole. Easy! I guess Cuisinart never washed theirs when testing the product or they would have discovered this design flaw.

Best thing about the carafe is that it doesn't leak like others when filling the coffee maker. (Yes, you can get it to leak if you are in a big hurry, but others leak no matter what you do)

Worst thing about the carafe is the handle fills up with water in the dishwasher. (one star penalty since it can be irritating!)

Shipped as specified, arrived on time, in perfect condition, and ready to be altered!
