Product Description

The M-Edge e-Luminator2 booklight is the ultimate accessory for the Amazon Kindle. Based on the input of loyal M-Edge customers, this custom designed booklight has been developed to work seamlessly with the M-Edge Prodigy, Platform, Latitude, Icon and Halsea Jackets. The powerful light features a super-bright LED light bulb which provides ample illumination for the screen of the Reader while a mirrored reflector and optical quality lens disperses the light uniformly. The light is powered by a standard AAA battery (not included) with endurance enough for more than 20 hours of operation without dimming. The light is operated by a three position switch with two light intensity settings.A flexible and resilient steel neck allows the user to position the light in the desired direction.Perhaps the most impressive feature of this light is that it is designed to be stored via a slim support arm sized to match a pocket sewn into the back of many of M-Edge Jackets for the Amazon Kindle. The light pocket is conveniently located behind the Reader and does not interfere with the use of the Reader. When in the storage position, the light is located conveniently in the spine of the jacket so you can easily bring your light while on the go (for our Platform, Prodigy, Icon and Halsea jackets). For our Latitude Jacket, there is a storage pocket to easily place your e-Luminator when not in use.

I wanted to like it....
By Jayme Harris (Houston, Tx)  |  November 20, 2009
...but I was disappointed. The gooseneck is too short by about an inch, to move it around to where it can light the whole screen. I have the m-edge "GO" Kindle cover and I slipped the light behind the right side of the Kindle (longways) as that seemed like the only place to put it. Besides being too short, only one light setting worked on mine. Don't know if it was the bright or low light setting, but it wasnt very bright. I do love the concept of it, small, lightweight & sleek, but I still think my clip on Might Brite lite performs better. Properly working, I think this should be about an $8 light. I'm sending mine back.

No perfect booklight
By Denise Martin (Crystal River, FL)  |  November 19, 2009
I have had a lot of booklights and now I've bought both available specifically for my Kindle 2. The quality is good; it's nice that it only uses one battery which keeps it very light weight and there are two light settings to save on batteries; it matches my Kindle; the neck is very bendable; and it tucks in nicely behind a Kindle in a jacket. This might be a problem for some people if you don't have a close-fitting jacket for your Kindle. My M-Edge jacket (without the closure) doesn't have a pocket to slide the light into, which is ok for me because I just slide it between the Kindle and the jacket, but if you don't have a jacket there is no way you could hold this on your Kindle so you should buy the other one with the clip Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version). Also, I can't close the jacket with my light inside (on the left) but I could close the jacket if my light was on the right. As with all booklights, you will get a hot spot from the light on the page, so you just have to adjust the light direction.

I've had a problem, though. The battery doesn't seem to be connecting with the contacts and after a little while each time I use it, the light quits. I've tried new batteries, of course, which didn't help so I mailed the light back to the company as per the warranty and am waiting for the replacement. If this doesn't work out well I'll let you know, but I'm not expecting any problems. Otherwise, this is as good as any booklight I've tried.

Nice
By T. McPherson  |  November 18, 2009
For me, this light is just right as far as brightness. It clearly illuminates the Kindle reading area but does not go much beyond that. It isn't much use as a flashlight, but that's not what it's made for. The light isn't bright enough to be a distraction, and the swivel adjusts to remove glare on the screen. I just can't quite swivel it enough to remove the bulb from my view and still have the light where I need it, but I am adjusting to that. The only thing I don't like about it is the off position is in the middle of the switch instead of on one end, so I have to pay a little too much attention to getting it properly turned off as I am putting it down to sleep. I have noticed like others have commented that there isn't much difference in the light intensity of the two settings, so it is even more of a waste that I have to fiddle with this. Other than that, I have found that I actually use the light more than I thought I would since it is so convenient. I am so glad I went with this product.

A nice reading light
By E. Paulsen (Sacramento, CA USA)  |  November 9, 2009  | 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I decided to change from my Amazon Kindle Leather Cover to the M-Edge Prodigy Cover. I have a Mighty Bright light also. I ordered this light as I figured the balance would be better with this one that could be "built-in" into the cover and have been using it for a month now.

My opinion (don't we all have them):

1. This light provides better balance to the kindle2 cover overall while I'm reading in bed. The brightness of the light is less than the Mighty Bright but that's to be expected when the Mighty Bright can use two lamps and this only has one.

2. The three position switch (center off) is adequate for the job but I would have preferred the "off" position to be at one end or the other. I have never had any problem at all in turning this light off and have never mistakenly left it on (don't see how I could close the cover wihout noticing if it was on or not)

3. The light is just a tad dimmer than the Mighty Bright (which I used in the one lamp "on" as it was just too bright with both of them on and disturbed the spouse once in a while). The light from this one seems to be a bit "whiter" than the Mighty Bright. I can tell the difference between the low and high settings with no difficulty - it's apparent which one is the higher setting.

4. I find that this light does not create as many "shadows" as when I use the Mighty Bright, ie: it minimizes light dispersion past the Kindle2.

5. It fits perfectly in the pocket in my M-Edge Prodigy without a loose fit and the cover closes perfectly over it.

*Note to M-Edge Cover owners - The M-Edge company makes three (3) styles of covers that have the pockets to use this light. If you are contemplating getting this light (recommended) then look down at the cover "Product Description" for the particular one you have or are going to get. It will state there if this light is for use or not with the cover you're looking at.

6. Over the past 30 days I have used this light an average of 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day - I have yet to replace the battery. While the light is getting a little more "dim" I don't believe I'll need to change the battery for another week.

7. You can swivel it to deliver light from the "top" of the kindle2 (shown in most of the pictures where it's associated with a cover) or you can just bend up the "wand" without the use of the "swivel" to light the Kindle2 from the bottom. I've used both but prefer to use the swivel with light at the top.

8. Quality is high to excellent. The materials are well constructed and sturdy.

9. One final thought - this light is not designed for use with the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover as it does not have the pocket built-in to hold it in place (as is also the case in some of the other M-Edge covers). However, if push comes to shove you can use it - the tongue that goes into the pocket can be inserted behind the Kindle2 between it and the cover. It will not be as secure as if the tongue had been placed into a pocket and can be knocked out if you're careless. And, you will not be able to close the cover. For the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover I recommend the Mighty Bright light.

Overall Impression:

If you are using one of the three (3) M-Edge covers that have the "pocket" this is an Excellent light to use. The light is more than adequate to read with and provides excellent illumination of the Kindle2. I also believe it's more comfortable to use than the Mighty Bright (which is now gathering dust on the nightstand but which I will keep around just "in case")

Nice product and I fully recommend it with no reservations.

Edit: one other thing. I carry my Kindle2 with me wherever I go and sometimes it even gets dark out! It's nice not to be lugging the Mighty Bright around also as a separate piece of equipment.

Perfect fit
By K. Kane  |  November 1, 2009
The M-Edge e-luminator light is a perfect fit inside the M-Edge Kindle covers. There is a special place made just for the light, and M-Edge offers so many covers, that I can buy many different colors and still use the light in each cover. I appreciate the fact that I can always have the light with me as it is already in my Kindle cover. I will never be caught with my Kindle in the dark! Also, it doesn't put out an insane amount of light. My husband is a light sleeper and likes to sleep in a darkened room. Fortunately for us, this light does not bother him when I want to read at night. It's a win-win situation! I can see what I am reading and he can rest! No more having to go to the other room just to read. I recommend getting this item if you buy an M-Edge cover for your Kindle. It may be on back order, but I promise, it is well worth the wait.
